Biography
Lorna James completed her Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2010, where she was a recipient of the Dame Eva Turner Award for Potential Dramatic Sopranos. She is now studying with Jane Irwin, having previously trained with Stuart MacIntyre and Lynne Dawson.
Most recently, Lorna covered the role of Fiordiligi Così fan tutte for Opera North. During 2015/16, Lorna collaborated with director Emma Black and conductor/pianist Chris Pelly on a new production of Poulenc’s La voix humaine, which has been performed a number of times in the UK since, and continues to tour in 2017.
Previous engagements include Carrie Carousel, Mařenka (cover) The Bartered Bride, Musetta La Bohème, Helena (cover) A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Vitellia (cover) La clemenza di Tito (all Opera North), Giulietta Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Diva Opera) and Micaela Carmen (Heritage Opera). Lorna will be covering the role of Kupava The Snow Maiden in 2017 and is now a full time member of the Chorus of Opera North.
On the concert platform, highlights include Strauss Vier letzte Lieder and Mendelssohn Elijah. Lorna also works regularly with the composer Will Todd, both as the soprano soloist for his Mass in Blue, and performing jazz repertoire with The Will Todd Trio.
